Day 1 Wednesday January 22

It is 4:08 pm at Detroit metro airport. Our group of 7 are amped and ready for our trip to Kenya. However, the 16 hours of flight time (with 3 hour layover in Paris), is less anticipated by our group.

Pastor Tyler asked each of us for one word that was on our mind that signified our heart for this trip.

My dad’s (David Lasslett) word was expectation (not knowing what to expect. Also, not knowing what expectations the Kenyans will have of my dad since his dad (Blake Lasslett) served in Kenya for over 10 years. Furthermore, where we “expect” to serve be where we actually end up “serving.”

Kamar’s was change (wanting and seeking the best change that can come from God’s heart)

My word (Frank Lasslett) was gratitude (To actively be gracious for every blessing God has given, which will transform me into being a blessing to others)

Bruce’s word was Father (he was thinking of both our Heavenly Father and the fact that we will be working with orphans who do not have a father, but are looking for a father figure).

Tyler’s word was Abide (continually trying to live within the will of God)

Ray’s was hope (the only hope in Kenya or here is Jesus)

Jacque’s word was learn (keep my mouth shut and ears and eyes open)

And Bruce…he is also on our team, but our photographer left him out of the previous group photo. Sorry Bruce.
